Leshala Cuisine

Leshala Cuisine

This African eatery often features unusual choral acts and singers. The food is mostly a game meat extravaganza, prepared traditionally and engagingly presented.

Some tourists do find their way here, but locals with taste and connections love it most.

About Leshala Cuisine

Leshala is a restaurant based in Molapo at the centre of Soweto. The name Leshala is a Selobedu (language of Queen Modjadji-the rain Queen) word referring to a place where food is stored after being harvested. We specialize not only in South African foods generally but also put an emphasis in South African meats.

For us Leshala symbolizes food in abundance. It communicates our commitment to serve our customers efficiently ensuring satisfaction at all times.

Our target market is both South Africans and foreign visitors who want to treat their taste buds to African cuisines in a modern restaurant with an African touch yet relaxed and welcoming. Leshala epitomizes class and elegance with an African touch. Our warmth and style is intended to attract customers of such caliber.

Our customers are served a full course meal that is composed of African starch, vegetables and meat. The starch includes dumpling and ting porridge while meat includes Kudu and Impala. Through our food and service, our customers are made to feel the warmth of the South African welcome and an experience of our country, in particular Soweto. With the quality of our food and excellent service, our customers are assured value for their money. Our price is currently a standard R130 per person for the buffet style service and meats.

Leshala is at No 39 Makapane street in Soweto, a short distance from the historical sites like the Mandela house, Hector Peterson Memorial and the famous Morris Isaacson High School.

We have all the basic facilities including a separate smoking area and outside sitting porch for those who prefer the view of Soweto townships. We also give exposure to upcoming musicians playing traditional, soul, jazz and classic music as well as space for local craft artists.

Leshala only serve lunch from 12h00 to 15h00 and dinner from 17h00 till late. This allows us an opportunity to provide our customers with fresh food cooked for that period.

We believe in empowering local people therefore all our staff members reside around Soweto.
